Overview
Vocational College Lappia (Ammattiopisto Lappia) offers upper secondary level professional education for students to develop professional competence in their own field and respected professionals, who are also able to function in an international environment.
Vocational College Lappia strengthens the local and regional competence and welfare of the local populations. The location of the college is well exploited in its activities; pure nature, services, high-tech industries and opportunities offered by the business sectors.
The basic vocational studies aim at providing students with the appropriate knowledge and skills for vocational expertise. Besides developing vocational skills our aim is to support students in becoming balanced and matured individuals and to prepare them to further studies.
In Vocational College Lappia there are 3500 students and 360 staff members. The college offers education in five branches, Service, Technology, Culture, Welfare and Nature. There are vocational study programs with 44 occupational titles. Studies take 2–3 years depending on previous studies and work experience. Teaching is mainly organized at college premises but supervised on-the-job training accounts for at least 20 credits.
Students can participate in developing their curricula and they are also allowed to choose studies in other departments of college and upper secondary schools as well as universities and universities of applied sciences also abroad. Modern workstations with access to internet e-mail and online libraries are available for all students. The college provides students with libraries and Learning Centers.Vocational College Lappia is/has taking part also project activities both in the national and international level (Erasmus +, Nordplus, etc).
International Activities
International operations and co-operation are a natural part of everyday life at Vocational College Lappia. Students, teachers, and other experts from abroad bring an international touch to learning in the vocational college and to the local working life in the North.
An important objective of international activities in Lappia is to offer the students and staff possibilities to experience working and studying in international environments and project work. The aim is to provide the students and staff with the skills they need to meet the requirements of an international study and working environment both in Finland and abroad.
Lappia is a participant in many international projects and a member in versatile networks enhancing cooperation in internationality.

- The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Finnish.
- Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.

- The entrance examination for foreign students includes both oral and written parts. Exams are held online. The entrance examination is for those who have set Vocational College Lappia for first place in the application and who have delivered study certificates and motivation videos in time.

Site Facilities Operatives work in site facilities service tasks and customer service situations at a customer site as set out in the applicable service contract. They carry out maintenance cleaning and periodical cleaning at a customer site. Depending on their choices, they also know how to plan and provide cleaning services at different customer sites, including food industry installations, special sites, hotel and other accommodation facilities, shopping centres and store facilities, cultural history sites, means of transport, educational institutions and day-care centres, cleanrooms, construction cleaning, industrial establishments, healthcare facilities or swimming pool and spa facilities.
Site Facilities Operatives work in institutional cleaning tasks and customer service situations as set out in the service contract of the customer site. They know how to provide maintenance cleaning services and carry out isolation room and equipment maintenance facility cleaning tasks as well as handle and sort wastes. They also know how to carry out food service and bed care tasks. Depending on their choices, they also know how to plan and implement cleaning services at different customer sites, including food industry installations, special sites, hotel and other accommodation facilities, shopping centres and store facilities, cultural history sites, means of transport, educational institutions and day-care centres, cleanrooms, construction cleaning, industrial establishments, or swimming pool and spa facilities.

Tornio received its city rights from King Gustav II Adolf in 1621. In 2021 Tornio will celebrate 400 years as a city.

Career opportunities
Qualification holders are able to work in cleaning and property services tasks at customer sites and in customer service situations according to the service agreement applying to the customer site. Qualification holders may specialise in property maintenance, household services, or site facilities services according to their competence area.
Depending on the optional units they have chosen, qualification holders are able to plan and
implement cleaning services at different customer sites including residential properties, hotel and
other accommodation facilities, shopping centres and store facilities, special situations at home,
means of transport, healthcare institutions, industrial plants, healthcare facilities, or swimming pool
and spa facilities.
